Dr Carlos Idrobo, also known as Luca Idrobo, is a Colombian-Finnish Philosopher, Art Historian, Psychologist, and Visual Artist based in Finland.
The emphasis of his research and artistic interests are topics in psychology, philosophy, and modern and contemporary art. He trained in Psychology with a final thesis on the narrative construction of identity (Universidad del Valle, Colombia, 2014), followed by a Master of Arts in Philosophy with a master thesis on Heidegger’s interpretation of the Aristotelian Phrónesis (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, 2008). His magna cum laude PhD dissertation in Art History (Universität Greifswald, Germany, 2017), published as a book in 2019, deals with the philosophical concepts of absence and time in relation to the figure of the wanderer in nineteenth century German art. He has worked as psychologist, university lecturer, researcher, and in other academic duties. As a postdoctoral researcher, he was part of the research project Mobility Limits in the Long-Nineteenth Century, based at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland, 2020-21), and led his own project called Hermeneutics of Walking, based at the University of Turku (Finland, 2021-23), funded by the Kone Foundation. As part of this latter project, he conceived, produced, and curated the workshop and exhibition Walking Abstractions (Sep.-Oct. 2023, Galleria Kopio | University of Lapland, Finland), in collaboration with the Finnish visual artist Kalle Lampela. In addition, he has worked as artistic and documentary photographer and writer in different independent and collaborative art projects under the artistic name Luca Idrobo.
